Become A Happier Healthier You In 7 Basic Steps

Living healthier does not mean picking up the latest fad diet or starving yourself. It also doesn’t mean that you have to put yourself on a stringent exercise program. Making some basic changes to your lifestyle can make the biggest difference. Your main goal should be to be mindful of your health and in turn, you may end up losing weight, sleeping better, feeling less stressed, and feeling overall better both physically and mentally. Here are some changes that you can make today to start living that healthy lifestyle that won’t break the bank or your spirit:

Take the Stairs

This one is a very simple change to make. Whenever possible, take the route that will make you work just a little bit harder like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking farther away when you go to the store. You will be surprised at how much better you will feel after trying this out for a few weeks (And how many more stairs you can climb without getting winded).

Eat Healthier

Ok, I know this one is a given but I’m not talking about changing your entire diet. Some simple changes can make a huge difference and if you stick to them, you will reap the benefits within weeks. See my post about eating healthier here.

Limit Alcohol Consumption

Just cutting down on drinking alcohol can make an enormous change in the way you feel. If you have a serving or two of alcohol a day, try cutting down to half that. Studies show that one alcoholic beverage a day can be beneficial, but any more than that can be detrimental. You don’t have to go cold turkey, just try to challenge yourself to hold off on those extra drinks.

Stop Smoking

I don’t need to go into this one much. It’s a very difficult goal to achieve but once you’ve made the commitment, you can accomplish it.

Take At Least 15 Minutes a Day For Yourself

Whether it’s reading your favorite book, taking a bath, or meditating, it’s imperative that you find time for yourself every day. Don’t make the excuse that you don’t have time – make time! Even those around you will thank you for being less stressed.

Smile and Be Kind to Others

Next time someone is rude to you, just smile and kill them with kindness. This will make you feel better about the whole situation, maybe not in the moment but certainly after it’s over. During your day, strive to keep a smile on your face and be pleasant to everyone you come into contact with. Go ahead and try it!

Exercise

Yes, this is yet another one that people say they don’t have time for. This is as simple as waking up 15 minutes early to take a quick walk around the block or practice a bit of Yoga or Aerobics in your living room. You can even squeeze this into your lunch break! Every minute counts and you can split up your exercise into 5 minutes at a time if needed. Shoot for a total of at least 30 minutes per day of exercise

Even if you only accomplish one or two of these goals, you will effectively change your lifestyle for the better.

Now get started and have fun!
