Prep Time 8 hours
Cook Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Servings: 6 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Dried Pinto Beans
  • Kosher Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Onion Powder
  • For the sauce:
  • 1 8oz can Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder

Method

  1. Pick through beans and throw out bad beans and rocks. Rinse and add beans to a large pot or bowl. Cover with 6-8 cups of water and soak for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the beans and add to a large pot. Cover with water and add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, and cook for 30 minutes.
  3. Uncover, stir, and continue to simmer for 45-60 minutes or until beans are soft and most of the water is gone.
  4. Add tomato sauce, chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder, stir until completely combined. Allow to simmer for about 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Serve immediately or separate and freeze for later.
